Consultation: Amendment of the West Coast Rock Lobster Managed Fishery Management Plan 2012
On Friday 14 December, WRL received a Draft Amendment of the West Coast Rock Lobster Managed Fishery Management Plan 2012, from the Department of Primary Industries and Regional Development (DPIRD).
The draft amendment to the Management Plan provides for an increase in the quota available to existing licensees of 315 tonnes from 2019. It also provides for a West Coast Rock Lobster Managed Fishery Licence (licence) to be granted to the Body Corporate under the Industry Technology and Development Act 1998 (i.e. Government) and for that licence to have units of entitlement (having equivalent values to existing units) conferred on it. Collectively, the amendment provides for the Total Allowable Commercial Catch (TACC) to be increased to 8,000 tonnes, with the new units to be brought into fishing progressively from 2020 to 2023.
Please note WRL has had no input into the drafting of this document. WRL has been given until 4pm on Friday 18 January 2019 to provide comment back to DPIRD on the proposed amendment.
