The episode which aired on Sunday 6 May 2018, featured the Lobster Shack in Cervantes which is a fantastic example of how fishermen are promoting the industry through tourism experiences.
The Geraldton Fishermen’s Co-operative’s CEO Wayne Hosking discussed their new state of the art Welshpool facility and what Australia’s free trade agreement (FTA) with China means for the industry.
Western Rock Lobster CEO Matt Taylor explained that it was the industry’s conservative decision making which allowed the stock to recover to its current levels. He noted that whilst stock levels show we are in a position to increase TACC we need to ensure we increase demand for the product at the same time.
Mr Taylor also discussed the industry’s request to have its science independently peer reviewed and why industry research data is crucial in maintaining the industry’s competitive edge as the world’s most sustainable supplier of premium lobster.
