Consultation: Recfishwest proposed Fish Aggregation Devices (FADs)

Recfishwest is proposing to install Fish Aggregation Devices (FADs) in Albany, Broome, Cape Naturaliste, Exmouth and Geraldton. WRL is seeking industry feedback especially with regard to the Geraldton FAD locations proposed by Recfishwest.

FAD installations consist of a surface float anchored to the seafloor (not an artificial reef). Please note the float design may vary slightly from the picture and this project only includes surface FADs, rather than the subsurface type, see images below:

Click below links to access two maps for each proposed location, one showing the sites, the other showing the sites along with other ocean and land marks and bathymetry lines.

Albany FADs

Broome FADs

Cape Naturaliste FADs

Exmouth FADs

Geraldton FADs

Click here to view a spreadsheet showing each location, the latitudes and longitudes and most importantly, the water depth of each FAD.

Access to the FADs is open to ALL.

If you have any concerns or issues with the FAD project / locations relevant to your WRL commercial fishing activities please contact Clare@westernrocklobster.org by COB Friday 23rd March 2018.  Or, if you prefer, please liaise with Matt Gillet directly at Recfishwest via Matt@recfishwest.org.au or telephone 08 9246 3366.
